The villages of Dodra and Kwar lie across the Chansal Pass
and are separated by a few kilometers. Still unconnected
by road, this pocket retains a pristine beauty. There are
countless wild flowers and medicinal herbs, thick woods of
flowering rhododendron, cedar and birch, waterfalls and fast-flowing
streams. All this is set against a majestic backdrop of the
high Greater-Himalayan peaks. The villages and ancient temples
are remarkable examples of local woodworking skill and come
packed with fascinating legends.
Team members will fly into New Delhi.
A combination of rail and road brings us to Shimla, the
state capital of Himachal
Pradesh. Rest for an evening in Shimla. In the morning we
will drive on the Indo-Tibetan highway for the first couple
of hours before detouring to the trailhead of this ‘Inner
Himalayas’ medical and dental trek. A 3-day trek over
a 13,800 feet high mountain pass takes us to our first remote
clinic site at the village of ‘Dodra’ 9,200 feet.
The trek up to the pass is strenuous but the breathtaking
views of the Himalayas make it well worth the effort. After
a 3-day camp at Dodra, we trek further on into the village
of ‘Kwar’ 8,000 feet and set another 3-day clinic.
After clinics at Kwar, we take the same trial back to Dodra
and turn south and trek south along Rupin River to our last
clinic site. After a full day clinic we return to the road-head
and drive back to Shimla on our way to New Delhi
